The Remote Access module gives the client the ability to use an ACET database from any location, whether this is in a different office across town or in a different country. This capability is achieved through an ACET farm, which resides in Oceaneering premises. The farm is composed of a file server to store the data and Citrix servers that the client PCs connect to through the Internet.
ACET is normally implemented by installing the application and databases onto the client PC's and network. This option is suitable for situations where there are a number of PC's all on the same network structure.

However, if a client has several projects or users in different locations (whether this is across town or around the world) then ACET would normally have to be installed in each location. .

With the ACET farm concept users can launch their ACET database from anywhere around the world.

There are several benefits to be gained by adopting the remote access use of ACET as follows:

1. Increased performance due to
· Application and Database reside on the same machine
· Data is not being brought back across a link
2. Reduced costs associated with
· Better time management
· Increased system performance
· Reduction in time spent travelling
· Reduced client IT overhead
· Reduced maintenance requirement
3. Easy multi-user access to the client database from two or more remote locations.
4. No significant additional costs to the client. This option can be integrated into the service provided.
5. The ACET application and database do not reside on the clients network.
The farm resides in Oceaneering premises and is composed of a file server to store the data and Citrix servers that the client PCs connect to through the Internet. On connecting for the first time a small program (called the Citrix ICA client) is downloaded / installed onto the user PC. From then on all data passed is encrypted and secure. Only valid username / passwords will get access to the server (using SSL technologies). In addition to this the ACET program only allows the user to see and use the databases (assets) they are authorised to use (Win2k server security + ACET username / password security). If a user requires additional access rights the nominated client administrator for that database would contact the ACET support desk (email address).

Citrix sends screen data and receives keyboard / mouse inputs through encrypted data packets. This requires port 1494 to be opened by the client network administrator. This port can be restricted to the ACET Farm address.

Citrix allows a user to send a print job to his or her local printers. If the client wishes, Citrix can even allow access to the user PC / network hard drives.
